Laura DeAngelis is a dancer and artist originally from New Jersey. For 8 years she performed as a part of the Washington Rock Modern Company under the direction of Cleo Mack in conjunction with the Cleo Mack Dance Project. She has performed in works such as The Rite of Spring and has done integrated performances in places such as New Jersey’s Ground’s For Sculpture. DeAngelis began performing her own works ranging from solos to large group works at the age of 16 through the Washington Rock Modern Company and through the Watchung Hills Regional High School Dance Ensemble. As a BFA Student at The Ohio State University, DeAngelis performed in works by noted choreographers Chien Ying-Wang and works by her undergraduate and graduate peers. In October 2017, she held an understudy role in Ohad Naharin’s Minus 16 in Parallel Connections performed in collaboration with Columbus’s Ballet Met. In 2017 she performed her first collegiate, choreographed work in The Dance Department’s Winter Concert. Since then she has performed self choreographed group works. Most notably, for the 2018 Winter Concert she performed the duet she created alongside graduate student Josh Anderson “The Best of the Worst of Us”, which was subsequently selected to perform at the Gala at the ACDA Midwest-Central Conference. She has also conducted many independent film and photography projects. Her film “TNT: Today Not Tomorrow”, was selected as part of the 2017 San Succi Film Festival in Texas. Additionally, DeAngelis is a practicing Yoga Instructor with a 200-hour Vinyasa Certification, and is also pursuing a BA in European History. In Summer 2018 she created a documentary used by Ohio State Arts and Science’s documenting the prestigious World War II Study Tour she attended on scholarship. DeAngelis tries to blend her interests in history, yoga, and media all within her choreographic exploration.
